21 SEPTEMBER 2017Shenzhen World Health Foundation urges swift action from the global health community on the ninth Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
10 May. 2018 Press Statement(SHENZHEN, CHINA) May 10, 2018 - The Shenzhen World Health Foundation (SWHF) learned with concern of the ninth outbreak of Ebola virus disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo from the recent declaration by the government. SWHF urges the global health community to take swift and collaborative action in response to this most recent Ebola outbreak in Bikoro of Equateur Province, in order to halt the spread of the virus and to save lives.
“The global health community must work decisively and together to minimize the loss of life and suffering in this latest Ebola outbreak,” said Jessica Zhang, Secretary- General of the Shenzhen World Health Foundation. “Viruses know no borders, especially in today’s globalized world. The Shenzhen World Health Foundation will work closely with partners in the global health community to help prevent the spread of the Ebola virus and other potential epidemics around the world.”
In this era of globalization, epidemics have greater potential of spreading more quickly and affecting larger populations than ever before. The World Health Forum, the flagship activity of the SWHF which will convene in the Greater Bay Area, China in November 2018, will bring together global leaders in government, business, academia, and NGOs. The Forum will address, among other topics, the effects of globalization, urbanization, and climate change on human health, as well as effective and coordinated responses to epidemics such as Ebola.
The Shenzhen World Health Foundation stands ready to cooperate with partners in supporting the needs and activities of the government and its health partners in addressing this latest outbreak.
